AAVE climbed 8.7% over 24 hours to $135.37 on Saturday, lifting its market capitalization to roughly $2.09 billion. The gain followed the decentralized lending protocol’s decision to restore new deposits and borrowing across its V3 and V4 markets after a temporary freeze tied to the Binance hot wallet breach.
Trading volume over the period reached $254.193 million. The token moved between $124.33 and $136.00 during the day. Its outstanding token value stood at $2.114 billion, and its fully diluted valuation reached $2.166 billion. Circulating supply was listed at 15.44 million tokens, against an outstanding supply of 15.614 million. The protocol’s total value locked came in at $16.193 billion.
Aave said on October 30 that it had reopened all lending markets on V3 and V4. New deposits and borrowing resumed. Nine tokens, however, stayed at zero loan to value, which blocks them from serving as collateral for new loans. They are USDT, USDC, USDT0, POL, WAVAX, sAVAX, XAUT, PAXG and OP.
The protocol had frozen its markets as a precaution after reports of the Binance incident on October 29. Withdrawals and loan repayments stayed open throughout. Aave said its smart contracts were not affected by the attack and that existing positions remained fully backed by collateral.
The freeze was a coordinated response by a joint team from Aave Labs, TokenLogic and Certora. It followed the discovery of a wallet linked to the Binance attacker that had used an Aave lending market to borrow Ether against stablecoin collateral.
The wider incident began when suspicious movements from Binance hot wallets raised alarms about a security breach. Blockchain security firm TRM Labs attributed the attack, with high confidence, to TraderTraitor, a group linked to North Korea. The exploit used Ethereum’s EIP-7702 feature and 50 pre-signed authorizations. It hit Binance wallets across ten blockchain networks and drained an estimated $6.3 billion to $6.4 billion.
On the price chart, AAVE rose from the bottom of its daily range near $124.33 toward the $136.00 high before settling at $135.37. The token gained 7.6% against Bitcoin and 7.2% against Ether over the same 24 hours.
Context matters here. Aave’s all time high is $661.69, which leaves the current price 79.6% below that peak. Its all time low of $26.02 puts today’s price 419.7% above the bottom.
The $16.193 billion in total value locked shows how much capital sits inside the protocol. Past data shows that figure swelling and shrinking across earlier market cycles, and it remains well under previous peaks. Perpetuals open interest over the last 24 hours stood at $786.772 million.
Binance said its hot wallets were compromised around 20:05 UTC on October 29. The exchange set aside more than $6.34 billion from its Secure Asset Fund for Users and its corporate treasury to cover losses. About $5 billion of that was already held in the affected tokens. Partners helped freeze roughly $3 billion in assets on chain.
The exchange said it found no evidence that private keys had leaked. It also identified additional breach points beyond an initially compromised DevOps laptop. Withdrawals stayed suspended pending a phased restart, which Binance targeted within about 34 hours of its October 30 update.
Chainalysis reported a separate finding. Operators linked to the breach used methods on the Tron network involving DeFi deposit tokens to manage their exposure to stablecoin freezes. The flows followed a clear sequence. Funds were swapped into stablecoins, deposited for receipt tokens that cannot be frozen, moved to clean addresses and then bridged off chain.
For Aave, the restart closes a tense 48 hours. The protocol kept withdrawals running, held its collateral claims intact and reopened its markets with tighter limits on the nine exposed assets. The market answered with a sharp daily gain.
