Several Feared Trapped After Seemapuri Building Collapse
A four-storey building collapsed in northeast Delhi’s Seemapuri area on Wednesday afternoon, leaving several people feared trapped under the rubble. Eight people have been rescued so far, while locals and family members said five others remained missing.
The Delhi Fire Service received the emergency call at around 3:30 pm and immediately sent fire engines to the site. Search and rescue teams began working through the debris as concerns grew over people still trapped inside.
A Delhi Fire Service official said the rescue operation was continuing.
Rescue Teams Search Through Rubble
Images from the scene showed a large crowd gathered around the collapsed structure. Residents were seen trying to remove concrete slabs and debris with their bare hands while emergency teams worked at the site.
Some residents said they had managed to pull injured people from the rubble before formal rescue operations could fully begin.
One local resident said four to five people had initially been rescued by residents and taken to hospitals.
“Police came after half an hour,” the resident said, adding that a child was still believed to be trapped. The resident also claimed to have administered CPR to one of the victims.
The exact number of people inside the building when it collapsed has not yet been established.

Traffic Police Issues Appeal
The collapse also affected traffic movement around Seemapuri. Delhi Traffic Police urged commuters to avoid the area so that ambulances, fire engines and other rescue vehicles could reach the site without obstruction.
The police said traffic was affected around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads. It appealed to people not to stop, park or gather near the affected area and asked motorists to follow instructions from traffic personnel.
The appeal came as crowds gathered near the building, potentially restricting access for emergency vehicles.

Earthquake Connection Under Investigation
Locals claimed the building had developed cracks after tremors were felt across parts of Delhi-NCR following an earthquake in Uttarakhand on Tuesday night.
However, officials have not confirmed that the earthquake caused the building to collapse.
Authorities said the precise cause will be established only after a detailed investigation. Structural condition, construction quality and any possible damage caused by the tremors will need to be examined before conclusions can be drawn.
The incident has also renewed attention on building safety in densely populated parts of Delhi, particularly where older or structurally compromised buildings are located.
Another Building Tragedy Within a Month
The Seemapuri collapse comes roughly a month after a deadly hostel tragedy in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area. That incident claimed seven lives and left several others injured.
The latest collapse again puts emergency preparedness and structural safety under scrutiny.

Search Operation Continues
